week in review; april 28–may 4

Monday, April 28
rest day
Another sinus infection started creeping into my life, so I rested, hydrated, and got lots of sleep this week. Sometimes with the help of my friend NyQuil.

Tuesday, April 29
unplanned rest day
I had planned on doing a short 30 minute run, but I started feeling sick again on Monday, so decided to get my rest and try to get healthy again before the race on Sunday.

Wednesday, April 30
rest day
My DH picked me up from the train station after work and we popped into my eye doctor's office to pick up my new glasses and contacts. Afterwards, we headed to a brewery/restaurant that opened about a year ago, but we had yet to try. Our one friend is opening a brewery in the next few weeks, and they did a collaboration brew that tapped the week before, so it gave us the incentive to finally try the place out. I got some ribs and the beer (Better Things To Do), and then had a sip or two from DH's flight. Better Things To Do was by far the best beer on tap.

Thursday, May 1
rest day
I had a later night at work than expected, so came home with a headache and had more work to get done before I could hang out on the couch with DH. We had some dinner and watched a little tv before bed time.

Friday, May 2
1.75 miles
Just a short run to keep the legs warmed up/stretched and ready to go for Sunday. My DH made us some pasta to start carbo loading for race day. Yum. At work, I made sure to drink plenty of water and Nuun.

Saturday, May 3
rest day
We went to the expo to grab our shirts, free socks, and our bibs in the morning, and then I had a dentist appointment in the early afternoon (no cavities!). The rest of the day was spent cleaning, doing laundry, hydrating with Nuun, getting my race gear ready, and then laying on the couch watching tv for the night. I declined the invitation to go with DH up north to see some friends, not because I didn't want to see them, but because I wanted to lay low and rest up for the big day coming up.

Sunday, May 4
13.1 miles
Half marathon day! It was perfect running weather (in my opinion), and the race was run very well, per usual. I was quite happy with my finish time, as I set a new PR by about 15 minutes, though I incurred some injuries/pains along the way that won't be fun to deal with the rest of the week. I'll do a full race recap in the in the next few weeks.

How did everyone else's weeks go? Any races, PRs, or running stories to share? What is your ideal running weather?

  1. Congrats on the huge PR Heather. That's awesome. It is always so satisfying to have a great race and big breakthrough with finish time. I look forward to reading your race recap!

    1. Thank you so much! My finish time is turtle's pace for most, but I'm happy to be improving and feeling more confident with each race :)

    1. Thank you! I'm so happy that I'm improving with each race. The knowledge and support I've been getting from other running blogs and twitter pals (like you gals) is so wonderful :)
